The Shipping Express scam screenshot - 28-Apr-2009

This fraudster should not be confused with any other company that may have the same or a similar name. The website graphics and the evidence below identify this criminal alone.

The Shipping Express is a re-shipping fraud job spamvertising website whose sole purpose is to present a convincing front for the accompanying spam campaign aimed at recruiting reshipping donkeys from among the general population, (spam sample below). Notice that they have even mis-spelt their own name in the webpage footer above. Despite having news items for 2008 in the above webpage, their supposedly US based website domain theshippingexpress.com was only registered by "Dmitri Ilyin of St. Petersburg" with WEB COMMERCE COMMUNICATIONS LIMITED DBA WEBNIC.CC (a Malaysian registrar) on 24-jan-2009 for the usual criminal's domain minimum period of one year and is hosted on a Chinese host. They are not a registered company in their supposed US state of Pennsylvania and they have absolutely no web presence, (apart from their own fake website of course). Their website carries a clear part time, work from home reshipping fraud solicitation and they are engaged in spamming activities using fake Careerbuilder spams.

Evidence of Criminal Fraud:

i) Despite claims such as this from their 'about us' page: "The Shipping Express, Ltd.  is a technology driven international distribution and logistics company. It has a strong presence in North America and extensive experience in the courier and expedited cargo industry" their supposedly US based website domain theshippingexpress.com was only registered by "Dmitri Ilyin of St. Petersburg" with WEB COMMERCE COMMUNICATIONS LIMITED DBA WEBNIC.CC (a Malaysian registrar) on 24-jan-2009 for the usual criminal's domain minimum period of one year and is hosted on a Chinese host - clear evidence of fraud.

ii)
A Google search for "The Shipping Express" shows no genuine web presence apart from their own scam website and other unrelated companies
. Clear evidence of fraud

iii) The fake contact details from their website:

Contacts.

Mailing Address
River Park Commons Business Center

Pittsburgh, PA 15203

Phone/Fax
(888) 370-7775 (accepts both calls and fax messages)
Please put Attn: (name of your manager) for fax messages.

• - The first thing to note is that they have mis-spelt their own address which should read 2403 Sidney Street. A simple mistake but indicative of fraud. A genuine company is hardly likely to misspell its own address.
• - A Google search on the address "2403 Sidney Street, Pittsburgh" fails to find any reference to this company.
• - A Google Maps business list check on the address shows no evidence of a company called The Shipping Express at that address.

iv) A Pennsylvania state business search shows that there is no business named The Shipping Express registered in the state of Pennsylvania - irrefutable evidence of a fake company and therefore criminal fraud. Check for yourself.
v) The reshipping fraud job advert from the website:

"The successful candidate for this positionwill be responsible for mail forwarding management and control of packages from US origins to international destinations". In other words it is a part-time, work from home job accepting parcels to your private address and forwarding them on to these crooks. It is the well recognised function of "re-shipping fraud". There is no genuine requirement for such a service and what the unfortunate 'dupe' may not realise is that the goods he has reshipped have been purchased by fraud, e.g. stolen credit card details or auction fraud and he will be the only traceable link in the chain. This fraud is well documented by many authoritative agencies, e.g. the United States Postal Service detail it here in a press release dating back to February 2005. There is also the "Additional duties as required" which could easily turn out to be payment processing and transfer, i.e. money laundering fraud. Finally there is the possibilty of identity theft as you have to give them a photocopy of your drivers licence or whatever.
